He has written and published extensively on Tolkien.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Carl Hostetter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a member of the Elvish Linguistic Fellowship and editor of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vinyar Tengwar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a journal dedicated to Tolkien philology. He translated into French three volumes of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The History of Middle-earth <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as the new Bourgois editions of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hobbit <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2012) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lord of the Rings<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2014-2016).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span><strong>Catherine McIlwaine<\/strong> is the Tolkien Archivist at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, where she has worked on the Tolkien archive since 2003.\u00a0 She is the author of\u00a0<\/span><i>Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth<\/i><span>\u00a0and curated the Bodleian\u2019s summer exhibition of the same name in 2018.\u00a0 The Tolkien Estate is greatly indebted to Catherine for her professionalism and expertise in curating and editing this website.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Maxime Hortense Pascal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a writer and poet. Tolkien: Author of the Century<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2000).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Arden Smith<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> holds a PhD in Germanic Linguistics from the University of California at Berkeley.\u00a0 He edits <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parma Eldalamberon<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Tolkien philological journal, and has published extensively on Tolkien\u2019s invented languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Baillie Tolkien<\/b><span>\u00a0is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and holds a Masters degree in English from the University of Oxford.\u00a0 She worked as secretary to J.R.R. Tolkien in the 1960s and edited the perennially popular<\/span><i><span>\u00a0Father Christmas Letters\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span>in 1976, and its subsequent editions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Priscilla Tolkien<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1929-2022) was J.R.R. Tolkien&#8217;s only daughter.\u00a0 She graduated in English from the University of Oxford and spent much of her professional life in the probation service before becoming a teacher of literature. She is the author, with her brother John, of<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Tolkien Family Album <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1992).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Christopher Tolkien<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1924-2020) was one of the first to hear <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hobbit<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his father&#8217;s other \u2018Great Tales\u2019, and he followed the evolution of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lord of the Rings <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">closely while training as an RAF pilot during the Second World War. He was a Fellow and Tutor of Old Norse, Anglo-Saxon and Middle-English at New College, Oxford.\u00a0 His professional career paved the way for his extensive work on his father\u2019s unpublished writings, which he began editing and preparing for publication from 1975 onwards.\u00a0 His many publications include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Silmarillion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1977), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfinished Tales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1980), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The History of Middle-earth <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1983-1996) and the three \u2018Great Tales\u2019 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Children of H\u00farin <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2007), <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beren and Luthien<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2017) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fall of Gondolin <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2018).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this website Christopher Tolkien wrote the exclusive prose summary of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Legend of Sigurd and Gudr\u00fan<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and permitted the use of his essay on the making of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Silmarillion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his introductions to certain other works, including <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fall of Arthur<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beowulf: A Translation and Commentary<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A huge debt is due to Christopher Tolkien for his tireless and irreplaceable work on his father&#8217;s papers over the last four decades of his life, and his unique contribution to Tolkien scholarship and studies, as well as to the continuing interest in the works of J.R.R.
