Tolkien Studies: an annual scholarly review
An annual, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal devoted solely to the study of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by West Virginia University Press, from 2004 onwards.

Journal of Tolkien Research
An open-access, peer-reviewed e-journal, supported by Valparaiso University, from 2014 onwards.

Mallorn
The journal of the Tolkien Society containing scholarly articles (which are peer-reviewed), shorter research pieces, reviews, letters and artwork. Published from 1970 onwards.

L’Arc et le Heaume
A French journal produced by Tolkiendil, a non-profit-making organization which promotes Tolkien’s work. Published irregularly from 2005 onwards.

Inklings Journals

Mythlore
A scholarly, peer-reviewed journal devoted to the study of mythopoeic literature, focussing on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Charles Williams, and the genres of myth and fantasy. Published by the Mythopoeic Society from 1969 onwards. Since 2006 it has been published twice a year.

VII: Journal of the Marion E. Wade Center
An annual, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal that provides an interdisciplinary forum for discussion of the lives and works of the seven ‘Wade’ authors (J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy L. Sayers and George MacDonald). Published from 1980 onwards.

Journal of Inklings Studies
An academic, peer-reviewed journal on the Oxford literary circle known as the Inklings (J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield and their circle). Founded in 2005 by the Oxford C.S. Lewis Society, issues appear bi-annually. It is supported by Edinburgh University Press.

Tolkien Linguistic Journals

The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship is an international organization devoted to the scholarly study of Tolkien’s invented languages. It is a special interest group of the Mythopoeic Society, and produces the following journals:

  • Parma Eldalamberon, an irregularly published journal, edited by Christopher Gilson and Arden Smith, published from 1971 onwards;
  • Vinyar Tengwar, a not-for-profit, refereed journal edited by Carl Hostetter, published from 1988 onwards;
  • Tengwestië, the online journal of the Elvish Linguistic Fellowship, edited by Carl Hostetter and Patrick Wynne, published from 2003 onwards.

Quettar, the bulletin of the Linguistic Fellowship of the Tolkien Society for devotees of Tolkien’s invented languages. It was published three or four times a year from 1980 to 1995.
